I never had a parent
to cheer me on from the touchline

I never had a parent to watch me play.

I never had a father
to see me trial for England.

And he never saw me play.

As for the clip - fearsome. And I think I actually Recognised one of them! Had a boyfriend at the time who played and thereby lost a front tooth. Well - who needs two...
