Oh, CI! That brought back so many memories and I have tears in my eyes. Back in 1979, with John already in the USA for the previous six months, the boys and I were booked on a flight to join him. A local folk singer, who I knew well, came round to the house and sang for me... Will Ye Go Lassie,Go and Leaving on a Jet Plane are lodged on my memory. But in my heart I was truly "Sailing" to be near him. Thank you for this post.
Expat, I guess that we "connect" with songs and music in exactly the same way. Music can be so evocative and can release a host of memories of past periods of time, people and places, and passions.
Here's a different emotion - about leaving... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1y6_rTamhqk
Not in a poignant manner, CI, but I love thumpy beaty stuff that you can't sit still to like... Sex & Drugs & Rock 'n Roll.
I was temping at Granada TV in '77 when that came out. Was working in The Krypton Factor office, & next door was Tony Wilson, celebrated yet tantrum-inclined musically-involved person. He got sent loads of FAB music and it would blast through the walls.
I'll never forget the extreme thrill of hearing this one.
Wow indeed, CI. And were you experimented upon too?
They tested the new Krypton Factor Observation round on me. I failed miserably of course. Fortunately they realised my efforts didn't truly reflect the standard of the questions...
Sorry for arriving late to the party. My midweek’s are on an Expat busyness schedule. Anyway, here I am and I am afraid to say I am no fan of the music of Rod S. And that’s not just because he supports them that shall not be named.
Blogger has made a few changes on how to post. To insert videos in your blogs, while in compose mode, click the little box that says insert a video. A pop-up should appear. Highlight the From You Tube section, then search for your video. Once you have found it, click on it and press select at the bottom of the box. It sounds complicated but it can’t be if I can do it. Have a few trial runs to see how you get on.
For a wave-a-long song I go for this one. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FJZ7Vn6Pz7E
One day hopefully blogger will allow videos in comments. This can be done over at Word press.

Good heavens,CI & Expat, how deeply moving - brought a tear to one's eye. (and I don't even like the song)!
Warm thoughts to you abroad

Struthio Camelus! I must have had my head in the sand - I thought that KFO was a Kentucky Fried Ostrich.
